NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a name
that encompasses the three most influential components
involved in producing human experience: neurology, language
and programming. The neurological system regulates how our
bodies function, language determines how we interface and
communicate with other people and our programming determines
the kinds of models of the world we create. Neuro-Linguistic
Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind
(neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay
effects our body and behavior (programming). |

NLP originated in the early 70's in the University of
California, Santa Cruz. It was developed by Richard Bandler,
a psychology student at the university, and John Grinder, an
Assistant Professor of linguistics. Together they studied
people who were excellent at what they did - particularly in
the field of communication and change management. They
studied Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and Milton Erickson,
eventually developing NLP into a powerful set of tools for
communication and rapport, strategy elicitation, state
management, negotiation and facilitation - to mention a few.
